Union’s subtle VFX enhance Jane Austen’s world for Sense and Sensibility.
For Georgia Oakley's adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, Union delivered 83 visual effects shots, helping to bring Jane Austen's much-loved story of sisterly love to life through a series of subtle, story-driven environment enhancements.
Produced by Focus Features and Working Title, the project required a range of invisible effects to create an authentic period world. Led by DFX Supervisor Jane Paton and VFX Producer Tallulah Baker, the Union team worked with the filmmakers to collaborate on elements from environment design to seasonal transitions - ensuring every shot supported the story.
The team created digital matte paintings and environment builds to enhance and extend a number of key locations, including the Dashwood family home (Norland Park), Barton Cottage and Victorian London. Careful research into the architecture and style of the period fed into expansive Sussex views through the windows of Norland Park. Similarly, with London views from the windows of the house in Upper Berkeley Street to include St Paul’s Cathedral and the River Thames. Every element was designed to blend naturally with the production.
With the story unfolding across changing seasons, the VFX quietly guide the narrative. Union transformed landscapes from summer to winter, introducing frost and snow. Tree replacements and forest extensions at Combe Magna reflect the passage of time and the story development. Alongside invisible blue screen work, these environmental enhancements helped shape the film's atmosphere and keep the audience immersed in Austen's world.
Sense and Sensibility released in the United Kingdom on September 25 2026, and in the United States on October 16 2026.
