Role Details
We’re looking for an FX Artist to join our CG team and deliver high-quality, visually compelling simulations for film and high-end TV. You’ll be responsible for creating a wide range of effects – from fire, smoke and water to stylised design-led simulations – using Houdini and working closely with our lighting, CG, comp and production teams.
What you’ll do:
Create realistic and stylised FX including smoke, fire, fluids, explosions, cloth, fur, destruction and crowds using Houdini
Recreate natural phenomena and character FX to match live-action plates or full-CG shots
Lighting and rendering your FX for seamless comp integration
Collaborate with CG and lighting artists to ensure effects work aesthetically and technically in the shot
Use templates and presets to build and refine tools, and help improve team workflows
Troubleshoot creative and technical issues to deliver FX at the highest quality
Interpret and respond to creative briefs, adjusting your approach where needed
Provide clear and regular updates to leads and production
Work proactively, either independently or as part of a team, depending on project needs
What we’re looking for:
Proven experience creating photo-real and stylised FX for film or episodic projects
Excellent Houdini skills, with a strong understanding of pyro, particles, fluids, cloth, destruction and procedural workflows
Experience shading, lighting and rendering FX (e.g. using Mantra, Karma, Arnold or similar)
A creative problem-solver with a strong eye for motion, detail, and composition
Familiarity with VFX production pipelines and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
Comfortable troubleshooting and helping others debug technical issues
Knowledge of physics and natural phenomena at different scales
Bonus: scripting knowledge (Python or VEX), experience working with fur/hair setups
A calm, flexible and professional approach – especially when priorities shift
Great communicator, confident working across departments and with production
